Looking under a microscope the numerous chloroplast's observed are a sign of very fresh henna. Chloroplast's are only found in photosynthetic, eukaryotic cells. Chloroplast's are capable of harnessing energy from the sun's rays of light. Using this energy from the sunlight, chloroplast's are able to form ATP as well as synthesizing sugars from water and carbon dioxide. These chloroplast's are generally oval and have two outer membrane layers (one layer wraps around the other). These layers surround a semi-fluid interior called the stroma. Within the stroma, another system of interconnecting, disk-shaped compartments are formed. Stacks of these compartments are collectively called grana (each stack is a granum). Light-trapping pigments, enzymes, and other proteins are responsible for the first stage of photosynthesis. This stage involves trapping light and formation of ATP. This synthesis stage occurs in the stroma. Chlorophylls (green pigments) are the most abundant of the photosynthetic pigments. There are also carotenoids (yellow, orange, and red). The relative abundance of these pigments are what cause the coloration of the plant.
